Insurance & Payment Options

We understand that finding the right mental health services while considering your financial situation is essential. That's why we offer a range of payment options designed to provide convenience and flexibility. Whether you prefer to use insurance or pay out-of-pocket, we have you covered. At Pillars, we acknowledge that understanding the costs of medical care can often be confusing and uncertain — we strive to break that pattern by providing clear expectations and helping you make informed decisions.

Insurance Based Services

Regarding mental health insurance coverage, Pillars has collaborated with insurance providers to ensure that your services are covered when desired. Upon your request, we will verify your insurance benefits and provide you with an estimated cost of your treatment. However, please note that insurance ultimately remains the responsibility of the patient. We kindly ask you to be familiar with your insurance benefits and contact the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to gather all the necessary information.

We proudly accept all forms of Indiana Medicaid, including:

  • Caresource
  • Anthem HIP
  • MHS
  • MDWise

as well as most private insurers such as:

  • Aetna
  • Ambetter
  • Anthem BCBS
  • Cigna
  • United Healthcare / Optum

Deductible

The amount of money you need to pay for your medical or mental health services before your insurance coverage kicks in. For example, if your plan has a $500 deductible and you receive a $600 bill, you pay the first $500, then insurance helps cover the rest.

Copay

A fixed amount of money you're required to pay for each visit to a healthcare provider. For example, if your plan has a $25 copay for mental health visits, you'll pay $25 at each visit, and your insurance covers the rest.

Coinsurance

The percentage of the bill you're responsible for paying after you've met your deductible. For instance, a 20% coinsurance means you pay 20% of the bill and insurance covers the remaining 80%.

Out-of-Pocket Services

Additionally, at Pillars, we offer cash rates for those who prefer to pay out-of-pocket without using insurance. These cash rates provide a straightforward and convenient option for accessing our counseling services.

Why Choose Cash Payments for Therapy Services?

At our practice, we are deeply committed to making mental health care accessible to everyone. We typically do this by accepting Medicaid, Medicare, and many commercial insurance plans. However, in some situations, paying for therapy services out-of-pocket may be more financially advantageous than using your insurance.

For example, if you have a high deductible, it might be less expensive to pay cash for your sessions. Say you pay $100 per session for 12 sessions — $1,200 total. If your insurance deductible is $5,000, you'd end up paying the full amount out-of-pocket anyway, making it more cost-effective to bypass your insurance.

Another reason to consider paying cash is privacy — some individuals prefer not to involve their insurance company in their mental health care for personal reasons. Paying directly keeps your treatment completely confidential.

Additionally, we can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement — a cost-effective option if you have a high deductible but are eligible for partial reimbursement.

We also understand the importance of making mental health services accessible to all individuals. To further accommodate our clients, we offer reduced rates for sessions with our interns — advanced students close to completing their degrees. Research suggests that the effectiveness of therapy is not necessarily tied to length of experience, so working with an intern can be a great option; it's still worth considering when deciding what's best for your care.

Reduced Rate Options

The cost of sessions will be determined by your confirmed income (family or individual). If your income changes, please inform your therapist, as this helps ensure others can benefit from the reduced rate based on their income or financial circumstances.

Our goal is to ensure that finances are not a barrier to receiving the support you need for your mental well-being.

Payment Process

To simplify the payment process, we have implemented an online billing system that stays up to date with your account status and offers convenient features:

  • Easy Payment Portal Access: Our client portal allows you to update your client details, insurance information, view invoices, statements, and make payments effortlessly.
  • View Payments: You can monitor payments made by your insurance provider once they have been processed.
  • Multiple Payment Methods: You can make payments online using your credit or debit card, HSA, FSA, or choose to process payments through insurance or out-of-pocket.
  • Billing: We handle the billing process and will submit claims to your insurance on your behalf. Please note that insurance does not guarantee payment.
  • Paperless Billing: We primarily send statements and invoices through our client portal, but paper bills are available upon request.
  • Payment Plans: We are committed to working with you and your budget to ensure you can access the help you need.
  • Billing Support: Our dedicated staff is available during our administrative business hours to assist you with any billing questions.

Medical and mental health insurance may have different coverage — in some cases, medical insurance might not cover mental health services, or your coverage for mental health may be through a different insurance company than your medical coverage. We urge you to review your insurance coverage, as it ultimately remains your responsibility as the patient.
