Dr. Mandy Morrill, NCC, LMHC

Dr. Mandy Morrill is a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She has a strong belief in the ability of people to heal and change. She received a Doctorate in Counseling and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, both from nationally accredited programs. Dr. Morrill has practiced, supervised, researched, and taught in a wide variety of specialty areas within mental health and wellness. She has experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups on a multitude of issues including grief, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, and life transitions (such as job changes, relocation, and divorce).

Her focus is strength-based, and she uses a humanistic and positive approach to therapy that integrates who each client is as a person into a personalized plan for treatment. Through her experiences practicing, supervising, teaching, and researching, Dr. Morrill has gained the perspective that the most important aspect of effective therapy is empowering the client and drawing out their resilience. She believes, "You are the expert on your life; I would love to help you find your strength."

Dr. Morrill joined the faculty at Valparaiso University in 2010 and serves as the program director for the graduate program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She also served for eight years as the clinical training coordinator for the same program. Dr. Morrill’s primary research interest involves examining the long-term consequences of abusive sibling relationships. Within this sphere of research, she also studies gender issues related to abuse and has published work regarding male victimization and female perpetration. Additionally, she has conducted research on the impact of sibling abuse on interpersonal competencies and self-esteem.

Dr. Morrill has presented her research at national conferences and has facilitated numerous workshops for clinicians on topics such as supervision and domestic violence. She has been interviewed about her research on abuse in multiple countries and has been a featured guest on Radio Health Journal. Dr. Morrill brings her clinical experience into her teaching, research, and supervision. She has practiced in domestic violence shelters, worked in addiction treatment centers, served as a court advocate and rape crisis counselor, and has provided counseling and advocacy for both men and women recovering from abuse and trauma.
