Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Cory Taing is a graduate of Valparaiso University, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2019. He is a licensed mental health counselor and has worked with all walks of life—including DCS clients, inmates at Putnamville Correctional Facility, and private practice clients—over his years of experience. Cory focuses first on building a relationship with his clients through a humanistic approach, meeting them where they are. His primary modality is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), helping clients understand underlying emotions and feelings that may not be easy to recognize at first.
“Something I learned in grad school and throughout my time in therapy is that one of the key components in therapy is to find a genuine connection with your clients. I’ll stumble on my words and make silly mistakes during our sessions at times. But I hope that the little mistakes you see me make—within reason, I’m still a professional, but we like to have fun too!—will help you be more comfortable and make that genuine connection with me so we can make progress in your journey. I’ll meet you where you are, and you just tell me where we need to go.”
